Travel Tournaments: 5 Tips When You are Away from Home
Travel tournaments are a fun way to bond with your team and get to know your teammates off the field. But they can also be stressful so we wanted to give you 5 tips to help you stay at your peak. Some of the best memories of travel tournaments are when we stay away with the team. Build your own memories and fun times now.
Tip 1: Stay at a Participating Marriott Bonvoy Property
Why? Hotels are easy to book with special rates available for when needing a short couple of days to a week or more. There are a variety of brands across US and Canada to meet you and your team’s needs. Check out these participating hotels for availability.
Pro Tip: From a parent of a youth sports athlete, staying at Marriott Bonvoy hotel was a stress free experience. Everything we needed was at our fingertips and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful.
Where you stay when traveling for sports has an effect on how you perform. With so many properties nationwide, you can stay in close proximity to where you’re competing. And our amenities allow you and your team to be at your best for game day and beyond.
Tip 2: Eat Properly
It isn’t a secret that you are what you eat. Eat healthy, play better. The breakfast choices are endless from eggs to oatmeal to cereal to waffles. Plus grab some fruit or a muffin on the go. It is nice to have options to start your day.
Pro Tip: Have an allergy? There are choices you can make that include dairy and gluten free.
Tip 3: Get a Good Night’s Rest
Grumpy won’t cut it when you are on the road and playing your favorite sport. Make sure you get a lot of rest in a comfy bed. You will thank us later.
Pro Tip: We love apps that have white noise. Have your choice of relaxing sounds that will help you get some sleep. It also covers up any hallway noise.
Tip 4: Hang with Friends
Your mood will change when you see your friends gathering in the lobby of the hotel. After a long day of travel, it is great to see familiar faces on your trip. Make sure you hang out with your friends when you aren’t playing games. It makes for a fun trip.
Well, the parents are supporting the tournament so let’s make sure they have fun too. Some restaurants have a full restaurant and bar. Check before you go. If you decide you want to bring your own adult beverages, there are plenty of places to hang out with other parents.
Pro Tip: Bring your bathing suit to get a quick swim with your team. Or see if the hotel has a board game or two, it is fun to play something with friends to pass the time. We love card games.
Tip 5: Home Away from Home Accommodations
As a sports parent, we have all been there. Your player is sweating, they smell and could also be wet from a passing rain storm. Things got gross quickly. One thing we love about many of these hotels is the one-site washer and dryer, some available FOR FREE. Read that again. It is so easy to toss in a load of laundry, especially those smelly socks.
Pro Tip: Bring laundry detergent from home and 1 or 2 dryer sheets in a sandwich bag. This way you will not have to buy anything.
Have a great travel tournament season and make sure you all have fun on the trip. You are building friendships and memories along the way.
